| The 4 Basic Psych-Out Games |
|
| DISTRACTION GAME |
| The opponent's crowd, their arena, signs, noise, etc. - or simple comments or actions to get you to respond to nonessential things. |
The Idea
The Bottom Line
|
Tries to distract you from doing what you do -- getting your focus on other things that aren't important
Everything and everyone are out to get you!! Or subtly - Do you inhale when the ball is snapped?
|
|
| INTIMIDATION GAME |
| Another more aggresive version of the distration game. (Opponents yell, wise off, put you down) |
WE PLAY A TOUGH PHYSICAL GAME - We hit on the echo. (Look out, we're bigger, stronger, faster! We'll push you around!) |
The Idea
The Bottom Line
|
Tries to make you afraid so you will lose your confidence - lose your belief.
Give up now - you don't have a chance!
|
|
| PROVOCATION GAME |
| Opponents provoke you be either ignoring you (showing no interest in anything you do) or by making personal put-downs to you or your team. |
This game tries to make you mad and to get you to prove yourself rather than concentrate on your own game. |
The Idea
The Bottom Line
|
To make you mand so you will focus on the wrong things - or try too hard.
I can do it - you can't - what you do doesn't matter.
|
|
| PRETENTION GAME |
| Opponents make excuses or downplays their ability pretending they are not bery good. Statemtns like - We'll show up - you are much better than we are, better records, etc. Also claim injuries - best people aren't playing in the game or are playing at half speed. |
The Idea
The Bottom Line
|
Make you feel overconfident and lose your focus. Attempts to get you to look ahead to other opponents. Tries to make you believe you can chalk this up in the "W" column.
Opponent says - you will beat us - you don't really have to try.
